E-Commerce Legal Support

An online business is governed by more than its terms page. Payments, consumer promises, marketing, privacy, platform rules and fulfilment must tell the same legal story.

THE WORK BEHIND THE DOCUMENT

Start with the decision and the facts.

I help e-commerce businesses align the documents customers see with the way orders, delivery, refunds and support actually operate. The work can cover a merchant’s own website, a marketplace model or sales through third-party platforms, with the applicable legal scope stated clearly.

The common failure is inconsistency: the checkout says one thing, the refund policy another and the operational team follows a third practice. I map the customer journey and identify where a promise is made, who must perform it and what evidence exists. Registration of an e-commerce store, government fees, tax and regulated-payment advice are separately scoped when relevant.

TYPICAL MATTERS

  • 01 Website and platform terms of sale or use
  • 02 Returns, refunds, delivery and cancellation policies
  • 03 Consumer information, pricing and marketing claims
  • 04 Payment providers, gateways, marketplaces and vendor terms
  • 05 Privacy, cookies, direct marketing and data-sharing arrangements
  • 06 Seller, supplier, fulfilment and logistics agreements

DELIVERABLES

Work product designed to be used.

The engagement may produce customer terms, privacy and cookie language, refund and delivery policies, vendor agreements, a compliance checklist, issue log for the website team and a set of operational changes required before publication.

SCOPE & BOUNDARIES

A defined role is part of good advice.

The engagement records the client, jurisdictional scope, deliverables, assumptions, timing and fee basis. Government and judicial fees, VAT, registrations, court representation, foreign-law opinions and third-party specialist work are excluded unless expressly included in writing.

Where another adviser is needed, I identify the question and coordinate the hand-off. General information on this page is not legal advice on a specific matter.

SERVICE FAQ

Questions specific to this work.

Can you write terms without reviewing the checkout?

I can draft, but reviewing the actual customer flow makes the terms more accurate and reduces contradictions.

Does the service include store registration?

Not automatically. Registration work, government fees and VAT are excluded unless separately agreed.

Can you review a marketplace model?

Yes. The analysis should identify who contracts with the customer, handles payment, controls seller content and bears fulfilment risk.

NEXT STEP

Describe the decision, the parties and the real deadline.

I will review fit, conflicts and the information needed before proposing a scope. Do not send sensitive documents until an engagement and exchange method are confirmed.
